Taking advantage of the contribution a user in Webs friends on the subject of development in Gimp, I allow myself to translate the tutotial presented by Gilberto G. Junqueira for Gimp-Br,, Broken Glass.

In spanish language you can read here this tutorial: Vidrio Quebrado / Gimp-Es
We began selecting an image; for this case, we chose this:

We created a NEW LAYER in bottom “is transparent” (Line), and, with the pencil, we made outlines like those of the graph of down.
In order to make straight outlines, with the tool "pencil” and maintaining pressed Shift the outline towards the other end of the starting point…

Soon, we created a NEW LAYER in “white” bottom; We duplicated the Line Layer and in the Picture of Dialogues, we positioned this new layer (Copy of Line) on the white layer.
“To combine” the layer downwards Copy of Line and White Layer in a single one.

Located on the layer recently combined, denominated “Gray”, we will begin to select with the suitable tool but different sections from the graph, for, using the “bucket” of painting, to begin to color in different tonalities from gray.

Fact this, we applied to Filters Gaussian Defocusing in 5 x 5 (vertical and horizontal respectively).

After these actions, we activated Original Layer Image and we applied to the Filters Map To move (x=30, y=30) using as “gray map” the layer.

We must maintain organized the layers in the order and following way:
It castrates Line - Modo=Dividir - Opacidad=30
It castrates Grays - Modo=Dividir - Opacidad=30
Background (original image)

This way we obtain the final result…

Enjoy The GIMP.
